Sungbok Mission School is a faith-based education institution established through the vision, sacrifice and missionary commitment of Sungbok Church, Korea, under the leadership of Rev. Lee Tae Hee, Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Sungbok Church Korea.
In obedience to God’s call for global missions, Rev. Lee Tae Hee sent Rev. Caleb Seijin
Choi and his wife, Rev. Deborah Hong, as missionaries to Ghana on the 10th of July
2014 to collaborate with West Africa Mission (WAM) and Jesus Gospel Church Ghana,
headquartered at Tema Community 25, and led by Rev. YoungSoon Choi. Upon their
arrival in Ghana, Rev. Caleb Seijin Choi and Rev. Deborah Hong committed themselves
wholeheartedly to missionary work, particularly in the Area of Education, Pastoral work
in Jesus Gospel Church and village missions.
With the full spiritual, moral and financial support of Rev. Lee Tae Hee and Sungbok
Church Korea, the Missionaries joined hands with West Africa Mission family to initiate
the establishment of Mission International School (MIS) at Tema community 25.
Through diligence, prayer and sacrificial service, Rev. Caleb Seijin Choi and Rev.
Deborah Hong worked tirelessly to build the school block from the ground up. Mission
International School begun in 2014 with only four (4) students, but by November 2022,
the school had grown significantly to a population of about six hundred (600) students,
to the glory of God.
Around the Year 2022, the President of West Africa Mission, together with his family, made a decision to take over the school without the consent and involvement of Rev. Caleb Seijin Choi and Rev. Deborah Hong. This action led to a serious misunderstanding between the missionaries, eventually resulting in a separation.
Prior to the separation, the Sungbok Church missionaries requested a refund of the funds invested in building the school, since the school had been taking over. However, this request was declined by the West Africa Mission leadership. Later after several meetings and calls from Rev. Lee Tae Hee and Sungbok Church Korea, the leadership of West Africa Mission assured Rev. Deborah Hong and Sungbok Church, Korea, that the construction funds would be refunded at a later date. However, despite this commitment, no payment has been made from 2022 to the present. After much prayer and spiritual reflection, Rev. Caleb Seijin Choi and Rev. Deborah Hong peacefully moved out of the West Africa Mission compound on the 6th of September 2022 and rented a modest two-bedroom apartment at Prampram.
Despite the challenges, Rev. Caleb Seijin Choi and Rev. Deborah Hong remained steadfast in faith and vision. They resolved to begin a new school project dedicated to Christian education and missionary impact. Through divine guidance, they engaged Rev. Richard Quarcoo who had earlier worked with them at West Africa Mission, Jesus Gospel Church and Mission International School but had also left and established Sufficient Word of Grace Church Tema Ghana. Who supported them with all the rounds and planning to acquire a land for the new school project.
As a result of the dedication, hard work, and passion demonstrated by Rev. Caleb Seijin Choi and his wife Rev. Deborah Hong, a number of MIS staff members numbering about fifteen chose to leave the school to follow them as Ruth followed Naomi. The staff members are Perez kpodo, Esther kpodo, Veronica Adjei, Henrietta Onyame Addo, Prince Amoah, Esinam Tagah, Augustina Afedo, Erica Tuagbor, Kelvin Amuzu, Precious, Jonathan, Rose, Doris, Phebe, and Anita. A number of parents, together with their wards also withdrew from MIS to join Pastor Deborah at her new school, motivated by the love, trust, and confidence they have in her leadership.
After extensive prayer and consultation, the vision to establish a new school named SUNGBOK MISSION SCHOOL (SMS) was presented to Rev. Lee Tae Hee, who, together with Sungbok Church Korea, joyfully approved and committed full support to the project.
By the grace of God, nine (9) plots of land were successfully purchased at Miotso Prampram, in October 2022, and construction of the new Sungbok Mission School commenced immediately. Rev. Caleb Seijin Choi personally supervised the project, working day and night with unwavering dedication, prayer and commitment to purchasing building materials and overseeing construction.
Shortly after the foundation of the school building was completed, Rev. Caleb Seijin
Choi fell seriously ill on the 28th of November 2022 with a stomach condition due to
stress from the West Africa Mission family which later progressed to perforation, and
was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), Accra. Despite
intensive medical care and fervent prayers from believers in Ghana and Korea, Rev.
Caleb Seijin Choi sadly passed away after forty three days at the hospital on the 9th of
January 2023.
During his hospitalization, Korean missionaries in Ghana and all friends, church
members and pastors from Ghana visited in large numbers to support Rev. Deborah
Hong, who remained faithfully by her husband’s side until his passing. Rev. Lee Tae Hee and Sungbok Church Korea also made every possible effort, spiritually and
practically, to save our beloved pastor, but God in His sovereign will, called him home.
Rev. Caleb Seijin Choi was giving a befitting funeral on the 10th to 12th January 2023
and laid to rest at the Abokobi Missionaries Cemetery. His life remains a testimony of
sacrificial missionary service and unwavering faith in Christ. May his soul rest in perfect
peace with our Lord Jesus Christ.
